GALLERIE D’ITALIA - NAPOLI

On Via Toledo you can find the art gallery Gallerie D’Italia which is a private gallery owned by the Banca Intesa San Paolo. The bank has repurposed its impressive old building, designed by Marcello Piacentini in 193, by turning the main part of the building into an art gallery whilst keeping a section at the side, for a branch of its bank. It has three other galleries in Italy, in Milan, Turin and Vicenza.

The Art Gallery houses many artefacts from the the ancient Greek world and finds from the ancient city of Pompeii, as well as paintings from Neapolitan artists such Luca Giordano. There are also paintings of Naples from the 16th century through to the 18th century. On the ground floor, there is a large space for temporary exhibitions.

One of the masterpieces of the gallery is Caravaggio's last painting, The Martyrdom of Saint Orsola.
