Sansevero Chapel
Details of the entrance to the chapel.
Details of the door.
From the end of via Benedetto Croce, at the left side of Piazza San Domenico Maggiore in one of the alley, there is the famous Sansevero Chapel. This is a rare example of a private chapel where the sculptures blend in with the structure of the building creating a magical harmony. It was built in 1590 by the aristocratic family of the Sansevero in order to accommodate their tombs. Astonishing sculptures are housed in the church, like the breathtaking Veiled Christ (1753) by Giuseppe Sanmartino, Disenchantment by Francesco Queirolo and Chastity by Antonio Corradini.
The ticket desk of the chapel is just in front of the entrance.
